Datnoids
Two datnoids stocked — the Irian Jaya tiger and the 4-bar — each in all three tiers. Both are ambush predators that hold station in cover and swallow tankmates whole, so they belong with fish of similar mass: bichirs, larger cichlids, nothing bite-sized. They carry a brackish tag for a reason; several Datnioides hold color and appetite better with salt in the water.
The caveat is patience. Datnoids settle slowly, often refuse food for the first week, and are sold small enough to disguise how much tank they eventually need. If you want one already eating when it arrives, buy the quarantined tier — those go out 48 hours guaranteed shipped, 28 days on pickup with a water sample.
