Everything we write is free. What costs money is the part that doesn't scale — the animals, and Cameron's time.
The School — free
Join the mailing list and you are in. Members of The School get:
- First look at new arrivals. Import lists and rare pieces go to The School before they appear on the site. The best animals rarely survive to the public listing.
- Subscriber-only deals. Real discounts on livestock and equipment, written by us, not generated by a marketing platform.
- The entire Field Notes journal. Every article, every week — species spotlights, disease diagnostics, breeding reports, and water chemistry without the hand-waving. There is no paid tier of the journal. There used to be, and we retired it: writing scales, so it should be free.
The 2-Month Guarantee
There is no membership to buy. Clients whose aquariums we service at least twice a month get a 2-month live guarantee on quarantined livestock our team installs — part of the maintenance plan, not a subscription. See Quarantined vs Non-Quarantined for the full guarantee ladder.
Visiting without a plan
Our showroom is a working gallery of zoo-grade aquarium and vivarium displays, stocked with animals most shops never get near. Come to look, come to work out what you actually want, or come to pick a marine biologist's brain for half an hour.
Every adult ticket is applied in full as credit against any same-day in-store purchase. Buy a fish, a coral, a light, a bag of salt and the price of the ticket comes straight off it — so if you leave with something, the visit cost you nothing.
- Gallery tour — adult (13 & up) — $10. Credited in full against any same-day in-store purchase.
- Gallery tour — child (12 & under) — $20. Non-refundable, and not applied as credit.
- Tour + 15 minutes with Cameron — $39, or 30 minutes — $78. Bring water numbers, photos, a problem you cannot crack, or a build you want stress-tested.
- On-site consultation — $155 an hour, across western Connecticut and the New York corridor.
Anyone 13 and over books an adult ticket and gets the credit. Booking as part of an online order? The adult ticket comes off automatically at checkout — one per item you buy — and time with Cameron comes off automatically on orders over $150.
