Drums

Two species, listed across the three tiers: the highhat, Pareques acuminatus, and the spotted drum, Equetus punctatus. Both are Caribbean fish with a long trailing first dorsal that hover under ledges by day and pick at the sand after dark. They suit a quiet fish-only tank or a lightly stocked reef with real rockwork and shade.

They will not fight for food. Put one in with tangs or damsels and it quietly starves, so feed meaty frozen food in the evening and watch it swallow. Ornamental shrimp count as that meal. The highhat is the hardier and cheaper of the two; start there before you spend on a spotted drum.
