Hamlets

Two Caribbean hamlets across the three tiers: the yellow-faced shy hamlet, Hypoplectrus guttavarius, and the indigo hamlet, Hypoplectrus indigo. They are small sea basses, hardy, steady eaters, content to hang in the rockwork of a fish-only tank or a robust reef, and far less demanding than most fish carrying that much colour.

They are also simultaneous hermaphrodites that swap male and female roles between spawns, which is worth watching and still no reason to keep two in a small tank; they squabble. Anything shrimp-shaped or small enough to swallow is food. One per tank, plenty of rock, and they largely look after themselves.
