LPS — Large Polyp Stony — corals are among the most visually dramatic inhabitants the reef world has to offer. Their oversized, fleshy polyps sway with the current like living sculpture, displaying the kind of color saturation and organic movement that no aquascape element can replicate. From the cascading tentacles of a Wall Hammer to the hypnotic symmetry of a Brain coral or the alien geometry of a Chalice, LPS species define what it means for a reef tank to feel alive.

Despite their showstopper appearance, LPS corals are genuinely accessible for dedicated reef-keepers. They favor moderate, indirect flow, mid-range lighting, and stable water chemistry — rewarding consistent husbandry with accelerated growth, intensifying coloration, and, in many species, active propagation you can frag and share. Euphyllia colonies in particular — Hammer, Torch, and Frogspawn — are notorious for spreading across rockwork and filling a display with sweeping, iridescent arms.
