Marine Betta

One species, in all three tiers: the marine betta comet, Calloplesiops altivelis. It is a slow, cave-dwelling ambush fish that spends daylight tucked under an overhang and comes out at dusk; threatened, it reverses into a hole and shows the eyespot on its dorsal so the back end reads as a moray’s head.

Slow is the whole problem. In a tank of tangs and anthias it never reaches the food, so plan on target feeding after the lights go down, and expect it to swallow any shrimp or fish small enough to fit. Peaceful with everything it cannot eat. Read how the tiers differ before you choose.
