Ammonia test kit

Helps monitor and adjust ammonia level and prevent invisible water problems that can be harmful to fish

Testing water parameters weekly helps prevent invisible water problems that can be harmful to fish. Fish continually release ammonia into the aquarium through their gills, urine and solid waste. Uneaten food and decaying organic matter also add ammonia to the water. Small amounts of ammonia stress fish; large amounts of ammonia kill fish. Ammonia is the #1 killer of freshwater fish. The API AMMONIA TEST KIT for freshwater and saltwater squariums contains two liquid dropper bottles, easy-to-read instructions with information on how to test and correct unsafe water conditions, two color charts and a test tube with snap-tight cap. This test kit reads ammonia levels from 0 to 8 ppm. Use the API API AMMONIA TEST KIT several times a week for 4-6 weeks when you start a new aquarium, and then use it weekly for monitoring or when problems occur. This aquarium test kit is for use in freshwater and saltwater aquariums.

Instructions of Use

Fill a clean test tube with 5 ml of water to be tested, or to the line on the tube. Add 8 drops from ammonia test solution bottle #1, holding the dropper bottle upside down in a completely vertical position to assure uniform drops. Next, add 8 drops from ammonia test solution bottle #2, holding the bottle the same way as bottle #1. Cap the test tube and shake vigorously for 5 seconds, then wait an additional 5 minutes for color to develop. Read the test results by comparing the color of the solution to the appropriate ammonia color card (either freshwater or saltwater). The tube should be viewed in a well-lit area against the white of the card. The closest match indicates the level of ammonia in the water sample. Rinse the test tube with clean water after use. Do not pour test tube contents back into aquarium or pond.

Nitrite test kit

Helps monitor nitrite and prevent invisible water problems that can be harmful to fish

Keep your fish healthy and thriving by testing your aquarium water's NO2 levels regularly with this easy-to-use API NITRITE TEST KIT for freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Testing water parameters weekly helps prevent invisible water problems that can be harmful to fish. Nitrite is produced in the aquarium by fish waste and uneaten fish food. Low levels of nitrite inhibit respiration and suppress the immune system; high levels cause suffocation. The API NITRITE TEST KIT tests for harmful nitrite levels from 0 to 5 ppm. This product comes with one nitrite bottle, one capped test tube, one instruction manual and one color card. API NITRITE TEST KIT can be used in freshwater and saltwater aquariums.

Instructions of Use

Water should be tested for nitrite every other day when your aquarium or pond is first set up, and once a week after the biological filter has been established (in about 4-6 weeks).

Nitrate test kit

Helps monitor and adjust nitrates and prevent invisible water problems that can be harmful to fish

Keep your fish healthy and thriving by testing your aquarium water's NO3 levels regularly with this easy-to-use API NITRATE TEST KIT for freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Testing water parameters weekly helps prevent invisible water problems that can be harmful to fish. When left uncorrected, high nitrate in aquarium water can lead to a build-up of organic pollutants and poor fish health. Testing is fast, easy, and accurate. The API NITRATE TEST KIT for freshwater and saltwater aquariums tests for harmful nitrate levels from 0-160 ppm. This product comes with one nitrate bottle, one capped test tube, one instruction manual and one color card. The API NITRATE TEST KIT for freshwater and saltwater aquariums Test Kit can be used in freshwater and saltwater aquariums.

Instructions of Use

Nitrate is produced in the aquarium by the biological filter. Beneficial bacteria in the biological filter convert toxic ammonia and nitrite into nitrate. A high nitrate level indicates a build-up of fish waste and organic compounds, resulting in poor water quality and contributing to the likelihood of fish disease. Maintaining a low nitrate level improves the health of fish and invertebrates. Excessive nitrate also provides a nitrogen source that can stimulate algal blooms. Aquarium water should be tested for nitrate once a week to ensure the nitrate does not reach an undesirable level. This test kit reads total nitrate (NO3) level in parts per million (ppm) which are equivalent to milligrams per liter from 0 – 160 ppm.

pH (freshwater) test kit

Helps monitor and adjust pH and prevent invisible water problems that can be harmful to fish

Keep your fish healthy and thriving by testing your aquarium water's pH regularly with easy-to-use API pH TEST KIT for freshwater aquariums. Testing water parameters weekly helps prevent invisible water problems that can be harmful to fish. pH is the measure of acidity of water, on a scale ranging from 0 to 14. A pH of 0 is the most acidic, while a pH of 14 is the most alkaline. Different geographies have different tap water conditions with different pH levels, while fish require a specific pH level to thrive. A pH of 7.0 is ideal when keeping a community aquarium containing a variety of tropical fish. Goldfish and livebearers prefer a pH of 7.5. Many Amazonian fish, like angelfish and neon tetras, prefer a pH of 6.5 to 6.8. Mollies and swordtails thrive at pH 7.2 to 7.5. API pH TEST KIT for freshwater aquariums test a wide range of pH levels from 6.0 to 9.0. Just dip a strip directly into your aquarium, and use the color-coded chart to determine if your water is safe or if adjustments are needed. Then follow the recommendations to treat the water – it's that simple!

Instructions of Use pH should be tested weekly, since natural materials in the aquarium (such as fish waste and uneaten food) can cause pH changes. When keeping livebearers, goldfish, African Cichlids, marine fish, or invertebrates, use the API HIGH RANGE pH TEST KIT.

Phosphate test kit

Helps monitor and adjust pH and prevent invisible water problems that can be harmful to fish and corals

Keep your fish healthy and thriving by testing your aquarium water's PO4 3- levels regularly with this easy-to-use API PHOSPHATE TEST KIT for freshwater and saltwater aquariums. Testing water parameters weekly helps prevent invisible water problems that can be harmful to fish. Phosphate enters the aquarium from fish and invertebrate waste and decaying organic matter, such as dead algae and uneaten fish food. Excess phosphate contributes to unsightly algae and green water blooms. In saltwater, excess phosphate can inhibit the growth of hard corals. API PHOSPHATE TEST KIT for freshwater and saltwater aquariums contains two phosphate test bottles, test kit instructions, one capped test tube, and two color cards to accurately measure phosphate levels in fresh and saltwater aquariums.

Instructions of Use

Phosphate enters your aquarium from fish and invertebrate waste and decaying organic matter, such as dead algae and uneaten fish food. Water treatment facilities may add phosphate to tap water to prevent pipe corrosion and reduce concentrations of heavy metals in drinking water. Some salt mixes also contain phosphates. Excess phosphate may lead to algae blooms. In saltwater aquariums, phosphate precipitates dissolved calcium and magnesium, inhibiting the growth of hard corals and other reef-building organisms. This test kit reads the total phosphate level in parts per million (ppm), which are equivalent to milligrams per liter from 0 – 10.0 ppm.
