Red Tooth Niger Triggerfish
Look past the iridescent blue-green body and you’ll eventually catch the feature this fish is named for — a set of bright red teeth that flash into view when it feeds or squares off with a tankmate. Those teeth sit on a jaw built to crack shelled prey, backed by the same locking dorsal spine every triggerfish uses to jam itself into a crevice when threatened, a mechanism strong enough that predators generally give up and swim off. More reef-tolerant than most of the family, but still opportunistic around anything bite-sized.
Care level: Moderate · Temperament: Semi-aggressive · Max size: ~15" · Min tank: 125+ gal · Diet: Carnivore, meaty foods
