The ballast (or transformer) is the electronic component that drives the UV lamp in an AquaUltraviolet sterilizer — regulating the voltage and current to start and sustain the arc discharge that produces germicidal UV output. When a UV system malfunctions, the ballast is one of the two most likely failure points alongside the lamp itself, and the two are easy to distinguish: if the lamp starts but flickers or dims, the ballast is usually the cause; if the lamp won't start at all, test the lamp first before replacing the ballast.

Symptoms of ballast failure include the lamp refusing to strike even with a known-good bulb, audible humming without ignition, the lamp flickering intermittently, or the unit powering on with no UV output. Ballast failure is more common in older units (5+ years) and in systems where the sterilizer runs continuously without a rest cycle.

These are genuine AquaUltraviolet replacement ballasts, matched to the electrical specifications of 15W Advantage series units. Non-OEM ballasts can work but introduce risk of over- or under-driving the lamp, reducing lamp life and potentially voiding warranty coverage on remaining components.

Compatibility: AquaUltraviolet 15W Advantage sterilizer series
Troubleshooting before replacement: Test with a known-good lamp first. If the lamp ignites with a new bulb but fails with the old one, it's the lamp — not the ballast. Replace only what's actually failed.
