Same full-length red stripe and same Paracheirodon axelrodi genetics as a wild cardinal tetra, but bred out over captive generations rather than pulled from the Rio Negro, which means less handling stress and an easier adjustment to tap-adjacent water parameters. It’s a meaningful difference for anyone who wants the classic cardinal look without the wild-catch supply chain. Sold in groups of 12 or more, this is a shoaling fish that looks incomplete below that number.

When it ships
Most non-quarantined stock goes out the week you order. If we do not already have the animal in-house we source it first — allow up to two weeks for it to reach us.
The live guarantee
Shipped: a 1-hour DOA window from confirmed delivery, and nothing beyond it. In-store pickup: 24 hours, if you bring a water sample from your aquarium and we test it before the animal goes home. Maintenance clients: 60 days when we service the aquarium at least twice a month, 28 days on a monthly plan.
